Can anyone think of a situation in which a deadlock-type problem could occur yet oracle returns no errors? For instance can any of the background processes (RECO, SMON etc) lock resources in manner which halts any transactions to that resource?

Slightly open-ended I know, but I'd appreciate any thoughts.
