Yes, you could go ahead and migrate to NT if you have the resources. But it is possible to get Personal Oracle and Enterprise manager on the same Win95 machine. I managed to do it and it's not too difficult. Here's how...

This assumes you are running version 8.0.x of Personal Oracle.

  1. Install Personal Oracle 8 as normal. 2. Configure the listener. Make sure you put an entry for the database so it can be reached through SQL*Net. It needs to use the "beq-local". 3. Install Enterprise manager but MAKE SURE to use a different ORACLE_HOME. 8.x products allow you to have different homes for different products. It is important to put it in a different home because the DLL's are not compatible. 4. Once OEM is installed fire it up and use the database connection you just created (make sure you start the listener, I have instructions if you need).

It should startup and ask all that stuff it needs to create the repository.

Since it's all running on the same machine it'll be slow but should run well enough to get a feel for the basic product. For get about getting Intelligent agent to work, though. If you want to play around with Intelligent Agent functionality then you should use NT.
