I am a DBA with 7 years experience and I have used the personal versions for both Win95 and NT. The great thing about Oracle is that they make their products run pretty much the same on each platform. Personal Oracle8 (PO8) is a great tool for learning the basics of how the RDBMS works. The only potential problen I see is becoming too dependent on the GUI tools that come with PO8. If you just want access to an Oracle database to develop VB applications or the like then the GUI is a real time saver. But if you really want to get into the gory details of how Oracle works then the command line interface (SVRMGRXX) is the way to go. In my years working with all versions of the product I've seen and used lots of GUI front ends, but in the end I allways depend on a command line for total control and reliability. As a DBA I have lots of little databases on my computers that I use to try out features and see how I can break them. It's a good investment if you are looking at a future with Oracle products.
