Hi
I have just recently started to work after finishing the studies,
and now I have to deal with Oracle under Linux. So I have a few
basic questions. Would be nice if someone could give some answers.
- I downloaded the oracle archive from technet.oracle.com (it was
about 140MB). It seems to be a free version, for non-commercial use
(right?). There is also another archive at www.oracle.com. So
what's the main difference between those two archives?
- Are there specific newsgroups for oracle/linux? Which newsgroup
is best for participating in discussions about oracle/linux?
- I also found a discussion forum on www.suse.com. Can this discussion
be joined by using normal news tools? If yes, what's the name of
the appropriate newsgroup?
- The Net8 administrators guide assumes that client configuration
is done through 'Oracle Net8 assistant'. But it doesn't seem to
be inside the archive, which I downloaded. Is it available, if
yes, where?
- Can anyone explain, how the different linux distributions work
together with oracle? It seems that it is quite important, which
distribution to choose. I tried Debian 2.0, and I actually made
it working, but the installation was not trivial, it even didn't
create the dictionary for the initial test db. With Suse 6.0 it
worked a lot better (hint: I'm using Linux/Intel).
OK, that's it. But I suppose, that these questions were not the
last ones :)
bye
