That's strange. Can you tell use the specific error message that you received? If that message doesn't help us solve the problem, there is a way to turn on tracing so that the listener dumps all kinds of status info to a trace file as it is starting. That's been helpful for me when faced with this type of problem.

I'm not sure. I also run Oracle 8 on an NT workstation, but it's always connected to the LAN.
