If you are using SQL*Plus 8,
you need not enter any connect string
for Oracle8.

But if you plan to use other tools like Froms etc., you need to configure your SQL*Net (Net8) and start a listener process.

What are your versions? (PO8 or Oracle8 8.0.3 or 8.04? and Windows95/98/NT?) Under Windows 98, PO8 8.0.3 is not supported (8.0.4 is ok)
