There are also many OS's that are much better in this respects. Oracle is designed to the open POSIX standards, fitting it to NT is a kludge because Microsoft do not care too much about standards (or some would say take care not to conform).

If you want to run Oracle (or Informix, sybase etc) on a low cost PC platform rather than a big UNIX server, then try Linux, it is more efficient and reliable.
