Hi all,
For the past three years I have spent 25 to 40 hr. per week writing and running PL/SQL queries (via SQL*Plus) on an Oracle database for the purposes of analyzing medicaid/medicare claims for a behavioral health HMO. Although I am self taught I believe I have developed some proficiency in the language. I have also spent a considerable amount of time studying relational databases and gaining practical experience by setting up different systems on my home computer (Sybase, MS SQL Server,
Access, Personal Oracle) and writing small front ends (VB 5,VC++ 5) for these systems.
My question is how do I transition from this level to one where I could credibly function as a Jr. DBA. I have read a number of books on Oracle,
PL/SQL, RDBMSs etc. and I am willing to pursue Oracle certification if this is a reasonable route. I would also consider pursuing another degree (already have a BS in Psych with a number of CS credits) but I am
working more than full time as it is and I don't want to take the time to acquire yet another degree unless I have no other choice. I don't mind working hard, I just don't want to go down a blind alley. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
