Oracle and Cognos Impromptu Query Engine Assistance

I am looking for someone to discuss the issue we have had in getting these two products to perform together in a satisfactory way.

In a nut shell, queries run exceedly slow through Cognos, but run very quickly when dropped into something like SQL Plus. I'm sure it's somewhere in Impromptu's translation of the query into Oracle's SQL. We are using the native Oracle driver provided by Cognos.
