SQL*Plus hogging processor utilization!!

Is there anyway to release SQL*Plus's control of the processor when executing a large query? I'm running SQL*Plus 3.2.2.0.2 (with Oracle 7.3.3) on Windows NT 4.0 (sp3), and whenever I execute a large query (that may take 20 minutes), my processor utilization skyrockets and stays at 100% until the query finishes (hence affecting the performance of my machine).

Any configuration ideas (through "Options, Environment")?

Thanks in advance!
