Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.misc -> Oracle Developer Wants Career Security
I'm a PL/SQL programmer - 1 year of solid (read:10-12 hour days) experience. I'm an intermediate Developer/2000 reports builder as well. Before Oracle, I was a GIS programmer - about 4-5 years SQL experience. I design small to mid-size databases, and am currently designing HR Benefits systems. Unfortunately, I work for a company that doesn't allow cross-pollination. I'm a PL/SQL guy, and that's it.. I love what I do for work, and it's a great company aside from the walls between development groups. But, I'm scared.
I've dead-ended my career in the past, and don't want to put my family through that again. What do I need to focus on in order to remain employable and earn a decent living (goal: $90-$100K/yr). I'm learning C++, since I'm hearing a lot about business logic and how it's important for it to be independent of the database server.
Thanks for any advice. I'm like a kid in a candy store - so many paths; which one(s) do I take? Is Oracle AppDev certification worthwhile? Received on Sun Jun 28 1998 - 00:00:00 CDT
