Hi all,

This maybe a basic problem, but Im a bit new to the 'installing Oracle' side of things on a simple PC (personal Oracle) setup

I installed Pers. Oracle 8.0.4 on my Win95 PC.. No problems - everything went fine and I can access the default db using SQL*PLUS 8.0 etc. - using username (e.g SCOTT), password (e.g TIGER) and BLANK in the host string field i.e no explicit SID

Then I installed Developer 2000 2.1 - installation seemed to go fine.

But Im confused when I run forms 5.0 as when I try to connect using SCOTT/TIGER/BLANK (or other uname/passwords e.g. system/<password Ive setup, which works fine in sql*plus 8.0>), nothing happens - the whole thing hangs.

Ive noticed theres a NETWORK and NET80 directory under ORAWIN95, both have tnsnames.ora files etc... This maybe a red herring, i dont know

If anyone can clarify what Im doing wrong, Id be MOST grateful...Please assume very little ORACLE dba'ish knowledge..I wont be insulted! My background is mainly PL/SQL, PRO*C apps dev....on unix back ends, where the db has been setup, SIDs sorted, tnsnames.oras in place etc...

Thanks... Received on Thu Jun 18 1998 - 16:42:02 CDT
