different data types in one storage place

Hi

I look for possibility to store data of different datatypes in the same storage place. As far as I see you can do it with the RAW datatype, which you have first to convert to Hex and then further on to the specific wanted datatype like strings or numbers.
Is this a fact?
Are there other possibilites?
