You were correct in one respect - I had forgotten to change the subnet mask. Sadly, however it doesn't make a bean of difference. I suppose the nearest I'll get to Utopia is Billy Verreynne's suggestion:

It is however the direct opposite of what I wanted in the now when I want to do some surf ing, I have to start the dialer by hand. 8-(
