Java to Oracle

Hi Everyone

Does anyone have experience connecting a Java applet with an Oracle database?

Our group has written a Java applet that uses dbAnywhere from Symantec to access a Sybase database. We would like to switch to an Oracle database but dbAnywhere behaves very badly with Oracle and is terribly slow because it generates 3 mysterious extra select statements for every single select statement we write.

Any good ideas as to what we might try next?
