The -best- server for a database with 2,000 records in it. This is a trick question right!? I'll put it on an old 386 with a 80MB hardisk drive and 4 MB RAM, using dBASE 3+ as the database. I'll boot the PC with a 2MB RAM disk and copy the database there on bootup. I'll use either Microsoft LAN Manager or Personal Netware to share the disk on the network.

With the money saved, I'll upgrade my PC to the latest Pentium CPU (333Mhz isn't it?), get some additional RAM, maybe another 5GB disk, the latest 3D Vodoo graphics accelerator, Microsoft Sidewinder with force-feedback...

Seriously though - the cost of running such a small database on an expensive database platform (Oracle -is- expensive!), with expensive hardware using a complex multitasking/networking operating system is like killing a fly with a double barrel shotgun.
