We have a similar situation. We are using a K220 with 2 processors running HP- UX 10.2 as an application server and a T550 with 5 processors running HP-UX 10.2 and oracle 7.3.4.1.0. Both are running SQL*Net 2.3.4. They are connected with a 100 megabit ethernet connection.

When we run the batch job in question on the T550 it processes nearly 1600 rows per hour. In production on a single processor K200 it does around 800- 1000. When it runs on the K220 app server to the T550 DB server it processes around 800 rows per hour. Less than 1% of the network connection on both boxes are used during this transaction.

We even tried running the job on the T550 and setting the TWO_TASK environment environment variable to force it to run through SQL*Net. We notice at least a 50% drop in performance (less than 800 rows/hour). This seems a
bit excessive.

Maybe our problem and Maria's are similar. Has anyone else seen performance drops like this when turning on TWO_TASK? The database, operating system, and network statistics all look good. We can't find a reason why we would see such a big drop like this.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
