xa does not work with popen?

Oracle V7.3.2 XA does not work properly when you have one thread calling Oracle XA and the other thread calling popen on an AIX platform - at least according to my test. Anyone have tried this one successfully? Once you go multithreaded, Oracle has so many problems!
