Hi Howard,

Please provide more information. How many concurrent users? Will the typical query be OLTP or OLAP? When you say PC based do you mean running NT?

It would also be helpful to know why you wish to use a PC as opposed to a SUN server. Please bear in mind that if you are dealing with an application where you can't afford significant downtime that it will be desirable, if not necessary, to configure a PC fully redundant, that is, mirrored disk, two or more processors, redundant power supplies, etc. If your concern is saving money, going with the PC may be the wrong thing to do. My company determined that we could purchase used rs6000s with IBM 7x24 support for less than the cost of a new 4 processor fully redundant PC box running NT.

Regards

Jerry
