Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.misc -> Scandinavian characters in Oracle
Hi all,
I have a wierd problem I was hoping someone could help me out with. I have a swedish oracle installation (Oracle7 Server Release 7.3.2.2.0 - Production Release) where I try to store strings (varchar2) with scandinavian characters (>127). The server is running on a unix server: SunOS 5.5.1 Generic sun4m sparc SUNW,SPARCstation-5. When I run sqlplus, I can easily use these characters. However, when I run my own ProC/OCI programs in the same environment, these characters are converted to question marks in the program output. I have tried to fool around with the NSL_LANG variable without any luck. Obviously, the characters are store correctly in the database since they work fine in sqlplus. Furthermore, working with these characters otherwise in the unix environment (using e.g. vim, more, cat) works perfectly. If anyone has any idea to why/where these characters are converted, I'd appreciate it a lot! Please cc to shjelm_at_csulb.edu.
Thanks,
