        I have an Oracle 7.3 database on a Sun server running SunOS 5.5.1. The database was created with WE8PC850 as the character set. The .profile for the account includes the line

NLS_LANG=american_america.we8pc850 ; export NLS_LANG

        My overnight export which is run using cron contains the following:

Connected to: Oracle7 Server Release 7.3.3.0.0 - Production Release With the distributed, replication, parallel query and Spatial Data options PL/SQL Release 2.3.3.0.0 - Production
Export done in US7ASCII character set

        Can anyone enlighten me on why the characterset is changed?
