there's no fault in your way to install oracle. It's just the way that versions prior to 7.3 aren't made to run with NT4 (as long as it concerns INTEL-based NT). We also started at the same time as you and had a little trouble to get a NT 3.51-version 'cause oracle's NT4 version wasn't released yet.
