Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.misc -> Database won't shutdown immediate
Hey there,
Our system is set up to kick off a script at night to shutdown the
database (Oracle 7.1.3 on Digital Unix 3.2(D I believe?)). For the past
few weeks, the shutdown has hung. The are no ORA errors listed in the
alert log at this time...the log simply states that oracle is attempting
to shutdown immediate and nothing is printed after that. We have been
having to log in, do a shutdown abort, startup and shutdown normal. This
has worked every time. This problem has only surfaced within the last
couple of weeks and the only thing that I am aware of changing since then
is a CPU upgrade to the server. There are occassional days when it does
completely shutdown on it's own, but more and more frequently it is
hanging. A database link does exist between this oracle instance and
another on the box, however that has alwasy existed, and has never caused
a problem such as this before. Still, could there be something up with
this link to keep the one instance from fully shutting down most of the
time (but not all)? We have attempted to shut down the other instance
first, then the troublesome one, however in this situation the shutdown
also hun, this time giving us an error message saying that it was waiting
for logins to complete. Once we started up the other database, the
shutdown completed. If anyone has seen anything like this, or has any
advice, suggestions, etc...it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Daniel Potter
