SQLPlus hangs

Bu only when I enter the correct username/password?

I changed ISP's about a month ago, and consequently some of my Oracle configuration needed to change also. I use it almost exclusively for local development. My TNS listener wasn't working so I made changes to listener.ora, and it appears to function correctly. I can get into and of the Enterprise Mangement tools using the "system" account just fine. I can also SQLPlus into the DB with system/password.

However, sqlplus hangs when I use a legitimate user/pass. If however, when I enter an invalid user/pass, it reports:

ORA-01017: invalid username/password; login denied

Any thoughts?
