I mainly use Oracle on Unix, we only have one NT instance. Anyway, the theory is that you don't need a password to connect as internal so long as your operating system userid (and group - unix) are the same as the one that did the original Oracle install.

So, I install Oracle on the box using the userid "oracle".

After I have created the database, and possibly changed/forgotten the sys and system passwords, I can still at any time:

1. Log in to the operating system as "oracle"
2. Start svrmgr (or sqldba)
3. connect internal;

No passwords required. Once I have done the connect internal, I can "alter user system identified by newpassword;".

I think the above can be disabled in the init.ora or somewhere. If so, I'd have to just kill of the Oracle processes, remove the disabling of the internal connection, and then restart Oracle.
