Here is some background relating to my problem:
- I have a machine running NT 3.51 with SP4 and the Novell Client for NT
Ver 4.1.
- There is an Oracle 7.1.6 database running on a NetWare 3.12 server
- The front-end for the database is ADP’s psTools and runs from a
NetWare 4.11 server. The psTools front end is a 16-bit program and is
run directly from the server; no executables or DLLs reside on the local
NT machine.
- Drives are mapped to both the Oracle database and the psTools
front-end program.
- The user makes a Bindery connection to the NetWare 3.12 server hosting
the Oracle database and an NDS connection to the 4.11 server hosting the
psTools front-end.
- All processes use IPX as the protocol although SQLNet 1.x is used for
the transport.
- There is also IP on the wire.
- Before the installation of the Novell Client for NT the NT 3.51
machine was using just the Microsoft NWLINK IPX Compatible protocol and
everything worked well. The problem arose only after installation of the
Novell 32 bit NT Client.
- The Novell Client for NT was recently installed on the NT 3.51
machines.
- I am not sure whether an NDIS or ODI NIC driver is in use.
Here is the rub. Since the installation of the Novell client the
following errors occur when attempting to execute any of the psTools
front-end programs:
- “Error NETSPX can not attach to Novell server.”
- And sometimes: a GPF involving SQLSPX.DLL, which resides in the
psTools directory on the NetWare 3.12 server.
The user also uses Report Smith, and when this program is executed the
following error occurs:
- “Error NETSPX can not attach to Novell server.”
This problem has been particularly frustrating for me. I am hoping that
someone will have a key to the puzzle.
Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated and most welcome.
Thanks so much for any help you may offer.
