Forms 4.5 (Developer 2000) and Comm Ports

I am about to develop an applications which needs to interface the information send by a balance through a serial port and the database. I can do this by using Visual Basic and ODBC to interface, but is there any way that this can be accomplish just using Forms 4.5?
