Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.misc -> Performance over satellite links
Hello,
My company sells communication and network services, and some of our customers are connected by satellite links. Some of them have centralized Oracle 7 database applications , using a client server architecture. The problem is that the performnces for a remote client to access the server, through the satellite link is very slow. The customer has a 128Kbps link and its response time is the same as a terrestrial 4800bps link. We monitored the transactions in the LAN, and found that this environment is very sensitive to delays (satellite delay is 250 mseg), because there are very small request-response transactions, and for each of these transactions the delay is added. The network protocols (TCP/IP) were optimized with big windows, but the application continues using small packets. Does anybody know how to solve this problem? Is there any configuration in Oracle that could alleviate the problem? We would appreciate any help. Received on Fri Jul 04 1997 - 00:00:00 CDT
