Dream Machine or nightmare ;-)

Hi All You Performance Tuning Wizards,

I'm just setting up a DEC Alpha 4100 with a raid controller. I've configured the raid to level 5. It has 3 busses with 5 4GB disks each and 1 hot spare. I've configured it to 5 logical disks, each one with 8GB.   Now I'm setting up the Logical Storage Manager and Advanced File System and it seems like I've got a lot of options. I'm thinking I'll use one logical disk for /users and one for /oracle. Perhaps one for data tablespaces and one for index tablespaces and another for roll back segments.   I started to partition these logical disks, after all 8GB is a lot but then I read that one should avoid splitting a disk between two file domains in AFS. Should I even worry about performance since the partition is striped across 3 drives already. I guess not all of the partitions really have to be AFS.

  Thanks for your ideas,

  Randy
