There are a number of command line mailers available. BLAT is a simple one that has worked fine for me and comes with source code. Take a look at www.cdrom.com, www.bhs.com or any of the standard windows archive sites. There is also an smtp module available for Perl, and lets face it, a simple smtp client isn't exactly a herculean task in C.

You can't that I know of but there are other options for encrypted links. There is an SSL link available and Symantec's NetCrypto will encrypt all connections between two machines for <<$90 a box.

True. I use the ksh that comes with the MKS Toolkit and there is a version of ksh available from Bell Labs that is free for personal, and I believe, educational use. For those who prefer c-shell, the Hamilton CSH is suppose to be pretty good. I'd like to have bash but I can live with ksh.

Do you wait for Sun to drop all of your software on your desk? I don't think that Sun distributes ssh/sshd so you've obviously gone out and picked up software for your Solaris system, so at least give NT a similar level of effort. Those utilities are out there and readily available for those willing to look for it. Beverly Hills Software runs a nice site at www.bhs.com that contains a large collection of useful utilities.
