Output a report to a terminal screen

I am currently trying to devise a mechanism to output some data to a screen. This screen should be updated as soon as certain pre-defined events occur - it is thus system driven. I have the idea of creating a report which will carry the relevant information and displaying it on a terminal - the terminal will be refreshed whenever the data behind the report changes. Is this possible and how would I specify for the output to be sent to the terminal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
