Problem with spool

When i use spool to create a flat file, the first line is always blanc. i can't use 'set hea off' because then i'm loosing the field names! by using 'set pagesize 0' there's no blanc line, but a chr(12). Is there some secret setting to avoid the blanc line and the chr(12)?
