DEV2000 Install errors

I'm trying to install the Developer/2000 that was included with Robert Muller's book 'Devloper/2000 Handbook'. I've tried to install on two different machines, without success.

1. One machine runs Windows for Workgroups 3.11, it fails with GPF's on PCMWIN16.EXE and aborts the installation.
2. The other couldn't even get the QuickTime / Acrobat reader loaded before failures. I also tried to install under Windows 95 and Windows NTWS 3.51 on this dual boot machine. Nothing works!

Why is this so difficult?
