Joe,
Thanks for the tip about the field object. After a very brief examination I was about to give up on OO4O for WinNT because of poor performance, but after changing the field handling according to the suggestions in the "Coding Techniques" section of the technical notes (strangely enough not the "Tuning and Customization" section!), performance is now good.
