Encrypted Password Problem on Oracle 7.1

I thought I'd run this problem by this NG in case anyone has had a similar problem.

I'm developing an application using PB5/Oracle 7.1. I am using Funcky for PB for ENCRYPTing and DECRYPTing user passwords in the user table. I can properly encrypt inside the PB application but when I try to store the password to the Oracle DB the password is stored as ??????? characters.

Is this a problem with Oracle 7.1? Funcky? PB5? the network? - any guesses or information would be appreciated.

Thanks
