Several Suggestions:

        1.)  Believe it or not, the Oracle Manuals !  Start with Server
	     concepts, then go to server admin guide.

        2.)  Oracle DBA Handbook, by Kevin Loney (Oracle Press) 
             This book is available almost everywhere but K-Mart. It's
             the gold-cover book.  2nd Edition is out, so look for it.
             Probably the single-best third-party DBA book available.

        3.)  Tuning Oracle (Oracle Press), by the two Mikes (Corey and
             Abbey, along with Daniel Dechichio.  Invaluable book for
             both theoretical and practical Oracle tuning.

	4.   Now completely re-read all of the above ( ya know,
lather-rinse...)
             You'll be tested on this material !
