Please c= ould somebody clarify for the me the distinction between these columns in D= BA_INDEX_USAGE:

TOTAL_ACCESS_COUNT=09<= /span>(Total number of times the index has been accessed)
= TOTAL_EXEC_COUNT=09= (Total executions the index has participated in)

How can an index part= icipate in an execution without being accessed?   Why are these n= umbers not the same?
