Given that they insist on their own localized 'DLL' rather than the system provided ones (eliminating a whole whack of conflicts), as well as a tightly controlled software component/version inventory, I really wonder who is 'behind the times'.

They had an RPM installer for Express Edition. It would not surprise me to hear that the experience is one of the arguments against RPM. It worked, with many many assumptions, and reminded me of the times when Oracle was lambasted for things like requiring root to do the install, not following the security thoughts of the week, etc. etc. etc. in the late 80s and 90s

And with the OEM Provisioning and CLI, a lot can be done that way using web or job techniques - if you are willing to pay the price.
