I have one example to illustrate my position, I want to certify in Java, I
really don't know what I have to know and what not, I'm going to buy some
books study work on it , and I'm going to get ceritified to verify I'm not
missing an important point.
The fact that java has a complete certification path, helps me to organize
my study and specialization on sun
http://www.sun.com/training/certification/java/index.xml
Even If I don't want to certify checking the contents of this certifications
is a guide to improve my skills.
And shows a recruiter which kind of knowledge he can test.
If Oracle would offer a complete certification path will be helpful in that
way.
Certification don't makes people smarter neither more responsible or
interested in his work.
But for those who are is an interesting alternative to other alternatives out there.
