Seeing as how you replied to my posting which was itself in reply to Chris' posting. I appear to have omitted a smiley off the end of my reply to Chris which has caused, it seems, a little misunderstanding. Chris sent me an apology privately whihc was not needed - the problem was my feeble attempt at humour and a missing smiley.

I knew Chris was making a joke and replied in a jokey fasjion myself, however, I missed the smiley leading to current confusion (possibly).

There are plenty of good contractors and plenty of bad ones. Some I have worked with tell you nothing, document nothing and, where possible, do nothing. The bad ones are even worse :o)

My wife works with a few who spend most of their time outside having a fag (for American listers, that means a smoke). Every twnety minutes or so they are off for a 15 minute fag break. The managers do nothing so it continues. Non-smokers get really p*ss*d off about this.

On the other hand, we also have good contractors - and I consider myself one - who document everything, explain our choices, do the work we are paid for and, most importantly, pass on what we know to those around us. One of my 'permies' is off to UKOUG this week and managed to snag an extra day for the Oak Table stuff at my recommendation - I'd like to be there myself, but I have work to do.

Contractors are no different from anyone else, there are good and bad. I think I'm a good one - I've only ever had two different companies hire me since I went freelance, but I get plenty repeat hires. I'm currently in the eighth month of a three week contract which expires almost one year on from my original start date.

Sorry about the potential confusion.

Cheers,
Norman.

Morning Chris,

I'm a contractor, I take full responsibility for all my actions.

How's that ?

Cheers,
Norman.
