Hi Mohammed,

see what happens if you delete a few entries from the same index, and then look at the same tree dump again. these events are undocumented, so the best way to find out what they do is by testing, testing, testing :-)

kind regards,

Lex.

Subject: Treedump Interpretation

Hola Folks,

I'm just begining my first forays into treedumps. I came across Richard Foote's excellent presentation
(http://www.actoug.org.au/Downloads/oracle_index_internals.pdf) . Heavy read for me at least.

Anyway, question is how does one interpret then nrows and rrows values? branch: 0x784d417 126145559 (0: nrow: 4, level: 2)  branch: 0x7c57042 130379842 (-1: nrow: 705, level: 1)

    leaf: 0x784d433 126145587 (-1: nrow: 297 rrow: 297)

    leaf: 0x784d72b 126146347 (0: nrow: 300 rrow: 300)     leaf: 0x784d741 126146369 (1: nrow: 300 rrow: 300)

For the leaf values, what does nrow and rrow mean; num of possible index entries vs. number of actual entries?

Can't find any mention of it elsewhere, although I have to admit, I have not been able to fully digest the entire article.
