But if alert is only pre-9i agent, how does 9i monitor it?

well as it states This event is valid only for releases of the
Intelligent Agent prior to 9i.
so in 9i oem is much more intelligent and does monitor the alert log

Can't a 9i database alert log be monitored by OEM 9i.

In OEM 9i event tests for the Alert event it states:
Examine ALERT log for additional information. Note: This event does
not
automatically clear since there is no automatic way of determining when
the
problem has been resolved. Hence, you need to manually clear the event
once the
problem is fixed.
Note: This event is valid only for releases of the Intelligent Agent
prior to 9i.

So 9i alert logs can't be monitored??????
