Interesting, but lousy. What organization would want to start supporting *another* operating system? And yet Oracle has continued the concept in 10g with disk management software. The problem is that Oracle has to compete in other market space for these products. Is their disk management software better than EMC or IBM Shark disk? For a small organization, it may make sense because they do not have the staff or talent to learn all of these hardware/software layers. But for a large organization that has support staff all up and down the infrastructure chain, it is a hard sell. For someone to stop using Veritas, EMC or Shark management tools for the new (and unproven) Oracle toolset is a tough pull. Just my little opinion. This is a OS server, with the following functionality: Flashback, Security, Resource Management, Incremental backups, recover reapplying "server redo logs" etc. This is enable the opreating system as a database itself (use as a real database), with an additional interface to use properly as a server. I will like a OS, where I could flashback to recover a file, some one deleted. I will like to know who reads a document. I will like to say a group of computers can have more than x reads in the server hard disk X1. I wil like to do fast incremental backups of my server. This is to manage the server os as a database (10gr2) itself, all the functionality to the server.
