But I have to say that this is one of the benefits of a properly configured Oracle->RMAN->MML-Agent->Tape environment. Oracle(RMAN) and Tape become a client server relationship and thus the DBA doesn't need to "go to" the SA to get the backup from tape. But again the emphases is on "properly configured (MML-Agent/Tape) environment"...No offense. ;o) Chris Marquez Oracle DBA HEYMONitor(tm) - heymonitor.com "Oracle Monitoring & Alerting Solution" -----Original Message----- From: Paula_Stankus@doh.state.fl.us [mailto:Paula_Stankus@doh.state.fl.us]=20 Sent: Friday, April 22, 2005 10:12 AM To: Marquez, Chris; lucdemanche@gmail.com Cc: oracle-l@freelists.org Subject: RE: Backup RMAN on disk and tape at the same time No offense but the weakest link has been the sys. Admin and the tape issues. So, when I need a backup/recovery I would like to be able to get my own hands on it as soon as possible without other human intervention. That is why I would not prefer to disk - then someone copy to tape. =20 Sorry - just over the years not a good experience with reliability in that area. Personally, DBA's talk to users and working intimately with data quality and cleanup data, massage data, ensure systems are running. Therefore, we are always closer to the users and the data systems. No offense but system admins. Are just a bit too removed and I don't get the impression that they always understand the full import of what they are doing. I will also say that my experience with sys. Admins. Has been in 4 organizations - one private and the rest state. Some where much better than others. However, all of them had a bit of a removed relationship from the users and systems we were all supporting. I think that is part of the job description. -----Original Message----- From: oracle-l-bounce@freelists.org [mailto:oracle-l-bounce@freelists.org] On Behalf Of Marquez, Chris Sent: Friday, April 22, 2005 10:00 AM To: lucdemanche@gmail.com Cc: oracle-l@freelists.org Subject: RE: Backup RMAN on disk and tape at the same time Luc, >>I'm doing a backup of my backupset to tape. Can I assume that you are using the TDPO Agent to do the "backup of backupset (to tape)". Little curious as to why you bought the TDPO Agent...could you have done RMAN to disk and the left Tivoli TSM do the filesystem backup to move/copy your RMAN backups to tape. I do understand that by using TDPO Agent you don't have to wait for the SA to put the filesystem backup, back on disk...you can go get "backup of backupset" yourself using RMAN...guess I answered my own question...maybe?
