And in addition to that, were you using something like VNC to ensure the ne=
twork traffic to your screen was minimized?  I've installed kernels on mach=
ines in the US from my laptop in Australia - using something VNC is the onl=
y way to do this with anything like timeliness unless you use a response fi=
le and do the install silently.

What OS? What hardware? What NAS? How were you mounting the NAS volume? What was the network between them like? How busy was the network?

I've installed Oracle 9i2 under Solaris 9 from an NFS volume mounted from another Solaris 9 server over a moderately busy 100MBit network and haven't noticed any significant speed difference compared with installing off CD.
