The change from 5.1 to 5.2 should be minimal for the databases. I would use the duplicate option of rman to accomplish this (unless the new server is 64bit and the old one was 32).

Subject: Transfer of a database from AIX5.1 to AIX5.2

Hi,

Oracle 8.1.7, AIX5.1
We have to transfer some database from one server running on AIX5.1 to a server running AIX5.2

My first proposition (and the easier) was to take a coldbackup and transfer it to the new server. The sysadmin told me yesterday that he wants to install AIX5.2 on the new server. We will stay with Oracle8.1.7.

My question is, will my coldbakcup be good even if the OS change from AIX5.1 to AIX5.2?

If not, I guess that my only option is Export/Import?

Thank you
Luc
