Has anyone on this list looked at Iomega's REV disks as a possible backup alternative to tape? I'm looking at this as a possible low-cost solution for a friend's small business (but big tables: currently 150GB, expecting to be within 1TB within a year or so).

Note to the humorous/flamers: Although I've done much DBA-type work (design, physical implementation and performance tuning), I've never done backup and recovery before so am a complete newbie in that area.

Rman comes with Oracle, is easy, reliable, etc. Time will depend on the size of the database(s) and the speed of the medium you choose. Give it a try!

I would like to hear thoughts on what is the very best option in your opinion in terms of 1. Reliability, 2. Speed to Recover and 3. Time to backup. Budget consideration is also at the top of the list.

I'm considering something like this as an otions that was previsuyl discussed on here:
put database in backup mode
break the mirrors
take database out of backup mode
mount new BCVs to sync up
mount old BCVs on backup box
run rman.
use backup DB for reporting.

Is anyone familiar with EMC Copypoint and familiar with budget.

Backing up to tape is no longer viable for us, thus the need for a total of about 50TB of space to backup to disk to retain 4 days of point in term recovery sets on disk for all databases.

There are a number of options at various prices point, Clariiion Diks library, Nearfield, adding traws of sata to each San, etc...

Opinons and feedback welcomed.
Regards,
David
