What about rman duplicate command? Is it possible to do this to migrate =
from 8 to 9? Duplicate command is available from 8.1.5, but prior to =
that version you can do it using individual commands.=20

My experience to duplicate using rman with different versions in Win2k =
is not good, it was necessary to have similar versions in both servers, =
but I know people who did this with different oracle versions in unix =
w/o problem.

Hi,
I want to move to new server on unix platform.
Current : 8 database ,Oracleapplication 9i
platform: UNIX

purposed : 9i database,Oracleapplication 10g
Platform :UNIX

Please suggest which approach would be good with minimum interruption to =
the=20
production enviornment.
Which option would be good Export/Import OR we need to install the same=20
version of oracle on new server and then upgrade by keeping the view =
with=20
minimum intrruption of production enviornment and less riskly?

I'm thinking following plan ,please correct me if any.
1)Install OS on new db and application boxes
2)Set enviornment.change kernel parameters etc according to oracle =
database=20
and applciation server and rebuild the kernel.
3)Install OS patches/packages  if any.
4)Install Oracle9i DATABASE and Oracleapplication 10g on 2 diffrent =
boxes.
5)Create database and map tablespaces according with currect.
6)take export on production and FTP to new box.
7)Import the data in usermode.
8)Configure the tns and listerner
9)test the applications
10)If all above 9 steps are successfully then plan for final migration.
11)We need to do either stop the application ,export the data,ftp the =
data=20
to new mahcine and start import on new server OR PUT THE TABLESPACE INTO =

READ ONLY MODE,LEAVE THE APPLICATION, TAKE EXPORT,FTP AND IMPORT.

thx
