What? You don't like DL/I calls like get_next, get_next_within_parent and get_parent? What about those lovely "EXEC CICS COMMIT" statements? Hierarchical databases did not have commit and rollback, which is why there was a need for an external transaction processing monitor (or TP/M) like CICS. Today I see an explosion of TP Monitors like Top End, Encina, Tuxedo, CICS/HPUX and alike. CICS has spread like wildfire (http://www-306.ibm.com/software/htp/cics/cuc) and you're making statements against hierarchical databases? I cannot wait for the IMS to return to life as a web-based tool. Instead of NCP's, we have firewalls now, but that is only a technical detail.
