If you're importing to a database on your desktop I don't think you have to FTP it at all. I'll see if I can find the setup we used tomorrow, but I think you can do something like this. Let's say you have 2 or 3 machines. Machines A and C are UNIX boxes and machine B is you desk top. You can run import on machine A to a database on either machine B or C. You can run import on machine B from A to B or C. You can run import on machine C from A to B or C. I believe our files were 7G compressed. Not sure when they ran this. I'd sure run it at night.
